1.1 Background of the Study
National integration is crucial for fostering unity and understanding among the diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious groups in Nigeria. The role of media in promoting national integration cannot be overstated, and Nollywood, Nigeria’s thriving film industry, has increasingly become a powerful tool in bridging divides and creating awareness of national unity (Okeke & Adamu, 2024). The films produced within Nollywood have the potential to shape public perceptions, encourage inclusivity, and emphasize shared Nigerian identity despite the country’s many social, ethnic, and regional differences.
Zango Kataf Local Government Area, located in Kaduna State, is one of the areas that reflect Nigeria’s ethnic diversity. The region has witnessed ethnic tensions in the past, and the need for strategies to promote national integration is critical. Nollywood, with its reach and ability to portray relatable stories, can serve as an effective medium for promoting national cohesion and reducing ethnic and regional conflicts (Ibrahim & Yusuf, 2023).
This study explores how Nollywood films can influence national integration in Zango Kataf, focusing on the extent to which they promote understanding, tolerance, and unity across ethnic and religious lines.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While Nollywood has a significant presence in Nigerian culture, its potential for promoting national integration remains underexplored in certain regions such as Zango Kataf. The study aims to examine how Nollywood films can be leveraged as a medium for fostering national unity and addressing the challenges of ethnic and regional divides (Bello & Salihu, 2024).
